Tell us about your role?
I work as a Style Consultant in Men's international category at the Leeds store, assisting clients with styling and selling our fashion collection. I also support stock control and merchandising - which is my favourite, and making the collection look beautiful for our clients.
I personally describe my role as more than a style advisor because, really, we are all a lifestyle advisor to customers, as once you have sold them an outfit that they’ll look good in,
it gives them the confidence to take on whatever life must throw at them, e.g. dates, proposals, night-out or starting a new job. I am also part of the Leeds wellbeing representative team with Connie and Sally Rose.
What's it really like on the Store floor?
It’s been a positive development since covid, I’ve witnessed a shift in customer behaviours. Men are wanting to live for the moment and be more exploring and daring a lot more of (appreciating the fashion before asking about the price) which is music to our ears as in Store fashion experts. We have stronger options in collections as the season buys are deeper and more inviting to customers.
When did your HN career start?
I started in 2003 on menswear as a Sales Associate. In 2005 I moved to London to do my final year at Kingston University, and I transferred to Knightsbridge and worked on Denim Contemporary. When I graduated, I stayed on and progressed as Brand manager of Burberry Prorsum. While brand manager, I was accepted on the HN management training course and was promoted to acting Assistant Department Manager (ADM). In 2009, I left to work for J.Lindeberg's London concession with the retail side, but still within HN. In 2013, I decided to move back to Yorkshire and reapplied to work on menswear. I restarted at Leeds store in September 2014 on men’s Denim and now I'm in men’s international as a style consultant.
What's your favourite part about working at HN?
No day is the same, you can be opening a box of new season Gucci in the morning, then walking, talking and serving Woopi Goldberg to booking a customer in the restaurant, as they don’t know where to eat in the evening. No day is the same, but you must make your day unique.
What motivates and inspires you?
Making clients happy and making them smile when they walk out, and knowing that we sell more than fashion, we sell confidence.
