Mary Richards D’Cruz, Head of Commercial

19 years ago as the Assistant Grocery Buyer, although even before then I worked with Harvey Nichols

How long ago did you start at Harvey Nichols and what was your first role?

19 years ago as the Assistant Grocery Buyer, although even before then I worked with Harvey Nichols as they were a client at a PR firm I worked at so I represented the hospitality and food and wine offering.

Tell us a bit about your current role and how this new department came to be?

The Commercial team was initiated at the tail end of 2022. The teams work is varied; from delivering brand and customer events, driving corporate sales, selling and brining to life brand activations instore to building strategic partnerships with relevant parties (eg airlines, hotels, financial services etc.) and increasing Harvey Nichols visibility with incoming international tourists from key source markets, but we all share the with the ultimate aim -  to drive customer traffic and sales to Harvey Nichols through offline and online channels through global partners and corporate sales.

I am lucky to have such a supportive, positive and tenacious team, and together we focus on high level collaboration and commercial initiatives to drive efficiencies and results across the business.

Have you always worked in this area?

No, but for the past two years I have managed the media and events and I have always been very commercially driven.

What’s your favourite part about working at HN?

I have had some incredible opportunities and experiences as part of this company for which I will always be grateful, and I will dine out on some of the stories I have for years to come.  I can honestly say that no two days are the same and I get to work with some really great people.

What motivates and inspires you?

I am extremely goal driven and I love the sense of achievement of seeing something (an event, partnership or even a large sale) that the team have worked for months come to fruition.

I am inspired by learning new things and working as part of a well-functioning and supportive team.

What is your perfect day outside of work?

That really depends but food, family, friends all generally play a big part.
