Luxury department store, Harvey Nichols, is searching for a Maintenance Assistant to join its thriving Maintenance team in Edinburgh. 

About the role…

As Maintenance Assistant, you will support the Maintenance Manager on projects and tasks whilst ensuring relevant departmental management are kept informed and there is a clear communication. You will:

• Complete maintenance tasks in line with priorities set by the Maintenance or Facilities Manager.

• Carry out ongoing painting, repair, and general maintenance to preserve the building’s appearance across both front and back of house.

• Work with regular contractors and ensure maintenance contracts are adhered to correctly during on‑site work.

• Monitor routine maintenance activities and maintain accurate, up-to-date records.

• Identify and report mechanical and electrical faults promptly to minimise disruption.

• Respond to ad‑hoc repair requests as they arise.

• Plan and undertake any maintenance work needed for Store events or minor works, undertaking work outside of business hours where more appropriate.

• Manage the ‘minor works’ maintenance request log, ensuring urgent issues are prioritised and resolved quickly.

• Provide practical advice and guidance where appropriate on maintenance issues.

• Comply with Health & Safety and fire safety regulations at all times.

• Develop strong knowledge of all store plant, equipment and building systems.

Is this you?

• Proven experience in general building maintenance or facilities operations.

• Ability to work effectively with contractors and internal teams

• Ability to prioritise workload to complete tasks to required standards and deadlines.

• Trade qualification (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) or relevant experience
