Harvey Nichols is seeking a Buyer to join our Womenswear Buying team based at our Knightsbridge Head Office. As Buyer for Womenswear, you will take full ownership of your department, driving the buying strategy to deliver sales, margin and profit targets in line with the overall business objectives. You will lead the development of a commercial and trend-led product range, ensuring it reflects the Harvey Nichols brand positioning and meets the needs of our luxury customer.

About the role
As Buyer for Womenswear, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the seasonal buying strategy, managing supplier relationships, and leading the department to achieve agreed financial and strategic objectives.

Strategy & Buying

• Develop and implement the seasonal buying strategy in collaboration with Merchandising to deliver sales, margin and stock targets.

• Build balanced, customer-focused and commercially viable ranges that reflect key fashion trends and the Harvey Nichols brand DNA.

• Identify and capitalise on new and emerging trends, brands and opportunities within the luxury womenswear market.

• Attend buying appointments and trade shows in the UK and internationally to source and select a commercial and innovative range.

• Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best possible terms, exclusivity, delivery schedules and promotional support.

• Review and evaluate potential new suppliers and brands to ensure continued innovation and competitiveness.

• Analyse weekly and seasonal sales performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and taking timely action to maximise performance.

• Monitor competitor activity and produce comparative shopping analysis to maintain market awareness and competitive positioning.

Trading & Performance

• Drive in-season trading through proactive management of bestsellers, repeats, cancellations and markdown strategies in partnership with Merchandising.

• Review sales, stock, margin and delivery performance regularly, making strategic decisions to optimise results.

• Ensure accurate forecasting and effective stock management to maximise sell-through and minimise markdown.

• Present performance updates and strategic proposals to senior management as required.

Leadership & Management

• Lead, coach and develop the Assistant Buyer and Buying Administrator, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment.

• Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the department.

• Work cross-functionally with Merchandising, Marketing, VM, Retail Operations, E-commerce, Systems, Warehouse and Finance to ensure alignment and effective execution of the buying strategy.

• Communicate product strategy, key launches and seasonal direction to stores, visiting locations as required to maintain strong relationships and market insight.

Administration & Process

• Ensure all departmental records, systems and critical path processes are accurately maintained and adhered to.

• Oversee delivery schedules to ensure stock is received in line with orders and take corrective action where necessary.

• Ensure accurate and timely reporting across sales, margin, stock and performance metrics.

• Maintain strong operational discipline across all buying processes.
