Senior Display Assistant

Job Purpose 

To ensure all areas of the display department are working effectively, focusing on the successful running of visual standards in Menswear and across all other floors when needed. To perform a variety of tasks including the training and development of junior members of the team on floor-based tasks and department operation needs to assist in the operational running of the department. Strong link in with management to ensure the right channels for communication in the department are followed and adhered too. Maintain a strong awareness of latest fashion trends in fashion/design/installation. Responsible for the completion of executing world class visual displays, through styling and creative installations across windows and interiors. 

 

Key Accountabilities 

  • Menswear/Womenswear – To recognise and build key relationships throughout menswear department and liaise with relevant managers and visual merchandisers to ensure consistency of high visual standards. Responsible for the supervision and completion of mannequin dressing/styling, mannequin standards and stock handling in this area.  Liaise with junior team members on daily standard checks throughout men’s floors following up on outstanding tasks and ensuring these are all completed in a timely manner. Responsible to ensure all weekly information forms are filled out to a high standard in order to maintain clear communication on updates for the rest of the team. 

 

  • Training & Development – Key role to train/develop junior members of our department on guidelines, standards, mannequin handling and stock control. Support junior members of display team with on-going training on styling, positioning and general standards in men’s floors as well as creative projects such as interior and window installations. 

 

  • Interiors – Have creative and logistical input in the different stages of the interior scheme process. From the conceptual/design stage through to install, maintaining and removal considering budget, materials and logistics to suit each brief/season.  

 

  • Windows - To lead a window styling team, reporting and updating progress to management team. Liaise with production team, freelancers, signage team, electricians before/during/after installation if there are any problems occur. To ensure correct location list is sent to signage department, on time and check them after application. Responsible for all stock movement, booking in/out, stock discrepancies and expiries as well as the correct filling out of all paperwork procedures attached to this install.  

 

  • Departmental procedures - Follow up with junior team members on communication and written information to ascertain all details have been considered. Perform follow up training in area’s to where an opportunity to improve is observed. Ensure all departmental procedures are followed efficiently when caring out tasks across the floors, windows, escalators or interiors. To communicate through the right channels in order to maintain an effective flow of information in the department. All operational procedures are followed and maintained as well as suggesting new way to improve the delivery of our business KPI’s.  Is integral to stock handling and distribution and is able to manage the visual impact on stock take. 

 

  • Communication and Leadership – Daily support for display management team on communication with areas of business linked to men’s floors, VM’s, and display team. Periodical support in communication with production team, head office teams such as events & marketing as well as external suppliers and contractors. Able to lead and inspire a team of display assistants as well as being confident to follow up on all HR issues which may arise through correct procedures. 

 

  • Signage – To ensure all signage in used is in correct format and consistent throughout menswear carrying out checks on condition and positioning of signage in collaboration with Senior Signage Assistant to ensure on brand. Daily liaising with VM and signage department to prepare for any floor moves before implemented. Ensure all junior team members are aware of signage requirements for all men’s floors.  

 

  • Health and Safety – Ensure a good standard of housekeeping within the department and that it is maintained in a safe manner & free of hazards. Always follow the correct Health and Safety procedures, ensuring freelancers and work experience members are alerted to any possible risks or hazards whilst working along side the department.

 

  • Events/Corporate – To be aware of any in-store promotions and events via marketing and liaising VM and signage department to ensure all events are well presented and reflect the Harvey Nichols image.  

 

  • Flexibility – Understand the need for changing priorities and required work to be finished on time, occasionally continuing outside basic working hours to meet the needs of the business.  

 

Job Dimensions 

  •   Report to Knightsbridge Store Visual Manager and Display Department Manager.

  • Strong communication skills in and out of the department. 
  • Must have relevant previous experience in managing and leading a team. 
  • Confidently lead a team of individuals, conducting a professional/personal approach. 
  • Follow up workload from more junior members of the team, giving feedback and time frames for completion of tasks.  
  • Identify training requirements for junior team members. 
  • Capable of managing numerous tasks at one time displaying strong organisation skills and forward thinking. 
  • Able to thrive in a fast paced and ever-changing environment and adapt to changes. 
  • An exceptional eye to detail, a natural flair and individuality to create innovative and highly stylised displays is required.  
  • To maintain a strong awareness of latest trends in fashion and design.
