PAYROLL MANAGER

You will provide an accurate, efficient and confidential payroll service to the company and company’s employees. To ensure all information is reported and accounted for accurately on a timely basis. All monies to be paid to employees and deductions paid to relevant agencies on a timely basis.

What you'll be doing: 

• Using the Payroll/HR system and Time and Attendance system to maintain an accurate payroll database on all employees and to a high level of confidentiality.
• To liaise with the HR department regarding updates/changes on employee details,  salary reviews and special payments and action accordingly.
• Working with IT to ensure the Payroll and HR system is working accurately and updating the system yearly to the latest version.
• To manage input to the computerised payroll system of overtime, commission, tronc,  tax codes, NI codes, any calculations of adjustments that may be necessary and any other changes that may arise. To check that the payroll input is accurate prior to payroll processing.  
• To ensure that PAYE and NIC have been correctly deducted and that SSP and SMP have been accurately calculated.  Ensure that the relevant payments are made to the HMRC on time.
• To process court order arrestment’s, community charge deductions, council tax deductions and Child Support Agency deductions from pay and ensure that the necessary payments are made to the appropriate agencies.
• To ensure that all employees receive their net pay accurately and on time via transmission to BACS or manual cheques where appropriate.
• Administer childcare vouchers, cycle to work schemes and any other cash benefit schemes
• To reconcile all balance sheet accounts in respect of the company’s payroll liabilities for review by the Financial Director on a monthly basis.  Ensure any issues are actioned accordingly.
• Process monthly pension auto-enrolment and add new pension joiners/leavers to the pension systems. Process pension deductions accurately from employees and make necessary payments to pension companies on time. Work with pension companies on pension changes and updates.
• To deal with any queries that may arise from staff promptly and tactfully.
• To provide support to the HR department on employee issues on a timely basis.
• To liaise with the finance department to ensure all liabilities of the company are accounted for correctly on a timely basis.  Provide monthly reports summarising this information and provide support for explanations of queries/unusual items.
• Provide payroll cost information to finance for annual budgets.
• To process end of year returns and reconciling PAYE, NIC, SSP and SMP to the nominal ledger. Once the reconciliations are completed produce forms P60 for the staff by the relevant due dates as stipulated by HMRC.
• To collate and produce forms P11D for the relevant staff. Also, to collate and process payments for incentives to HMRC using PSA and Tax awards Scheme.
• To ensure that enquiries from appropriate outside agencies, e.g. HMRC, DPW are dealt within a prompt manner. As necessary, liaising with HMRC and DPW on key issues.
• To maintain professional knowledge in statutory and technical updates liaising with auditors, HMRC and other external agencies as appropriate.
• To provide any assistance necessary to Auditors concerning payroll procedures and processing.
• To manage and develop a payroll team and ensure that they are fully conversant with all Company payroll procedures.
• To perform any other duties as requested by the Group Reward Manager.

• Experience in managing team
•  Experience in managing start to end payroll processes
•  Excellent understanding of legislation relating to all payroll practices
•  Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Applications
