About the role… 

As Group Health & Safety and Food Hygiene Manager you will be working with the Group HR Director and key stakeholders, to make sure Harvey Nichols are compliant in all things Health & Safety and Food. You will make sure all Harvey Nichols staff, concession staff, contractors, freelancers, visitors, and customers to any Harvey Nichols’ premises are safe and help deliver a to deliver a healthy and supportive working environment .  You need to be great at working autonomously but also great working with the teams when you need to.

  • You will be our Competent Person, ensuring compliance with all relevant Health & Safety and Food Hygiene legislation across all business activities for Harvey Nichols.
  • You will be our Competent Person with all relevant authorities and enforcement agencies.
  • You need to be great at developing, maintaining and improving a comprehensive and innovative Health & Safety Management System for Harvey Nichols and make sure you are drafting any amendments following new legislation and incidents.
  • You will make sure we have the best auditing process i to ensure suitable and adequate safety systems are employed across all business activities.
  • You will manage and improve our online incident reporting system for accidents, hazards, near misses and dangerous occurrences.
  • You will work with our Insurers and appointed solicitors on any Employee Liability and Public Liability insurance claims for accidents and incidents.
  • You will keep everyone up to date with appropriate information, reports, statistics, and advice, covering Health & Safety, and Food Hygiene performance, management issues and any changes to legal responsibilities.
  • To work closely with our appointed Food Safety Consultants to ensure audits are carried out at all sites, and that information is accurate and updated and that all relevant actions identified are implemented.
  • Working with our Group Facilities Manager to make sure of the appropriate management and monitoring of contractors, sub-contractors, freelancers, merchandisers etc. working on our premises.
  • To work closely with the Learning and Development Team to ensure that we have all the appropriate compliance training is delivered across the business.
  • To work closely with our Food Technologist and Food Buying team to ensure that all own bought food & wines are fully compliant with food hygiene legislation, appropriate allergen labelling & supplier auditing and to then monitor standards and performance
  • To provide guidance, technical support and to promote an environment of continuous improvement to ensure the Company meets the requirements of regulatory codes, best practice, and legislation.
  • To facilitate and support all head office departments when planning and implementing any promotional activities, attendance at external events, creative and visual merchandising and window displays which may require pragmatic Health & Safety solutions.

Is this you? 

We are looking for individuals who embrace diversity, love a challenge, are passionate about luxury retail and are looking for something uniquely different.  

  • A professional qualification in health and safety, for example, the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent?
  • Do you have significant post qualification experience of working in a similar Health & Safety role in a relevant large, multi-site organisation, ideally retail or commercial?
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body e.g., IOSH, CIEH etc.?
  • Expert knowledge of Health & Safety and Food Hygiene legislation and best practice?
  • Are you a strong communicator?
  • Are you really organised?
  • Do you have a passion for all things luxury?
  • Do you love travelling to different sites?
