FRONT END DEVELOPER  LONDON

The primary role is to support the Harvey Nichols Online Development team in maintaining and developing its digital presence across multiple platforms. Working with the Online and IT departments in contributing and developing the harveynichols.com website which utilises a new headless React, Redux frontend which we aim to drive all web traffic through. A creative, collaborative and digital mind set is key. The candidate will have at commercial experience working on a variety of sizeable projects in an agile environment. They will have experience in responsive web design and the ability to show creative flare, an eye for design and a grounded UX mind-set. You will be self-organised, able to make key decisions within your area on behalf of the department and report to upper management on a regular basis. You will display a service worthy of a 5-star hotel in your work and towards your colleagues and to our customers. Your ability to communicate to people of all levels and technical ability in a positive and friendly manner is key.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist the business in its development of Wordpress, Express/React and any other platforms that are introduced to the company’s ecom ecosystem.
  • Keep abreast of the latest web technologies and developments and continuously help evolve the HN digital landscape in an innovative manor.
  • Working with the product team on translating user requirements into workable specifications so the team can estimate accurate time scales during the sprint and analysis stage.
  • Have a good understanding of the HN multichannel infrastructure in order to make knowledgeable decisions when developing new features.
  • Have a strong background of QA to ensure a solid testing environment is adhered to.
  • Providing training to users of new systems in terms of CMS capabilities. Ensuring users fully utilize system functionality.
  • Contributing to regular code reviews
  • Assisting automated testing and improved standards
  • Managing Fastly and CDN configuration
  • Translate research finding into deliverables e.g. user journeys, story boarding to bring findings and project to life
  • Conduct requirements analysis including personas, scenarios, task analysis, usability testing, and competitor analysis collaborating with Web Development, Product Marketing, Creative and Marketing teams where relevant
  • Develop UX principles and guidelines to support the evolvement of Digital Brand Guidelines for Harvey Nichols.com
  • Co-ordinate and participate in testing and final UAT sign-off.
  • Strong customer-focus with knowledge of ecommerce, usability and experience design
  • Good understanding and ability to deliver well-scoped, designed, run, and communicated research projects with demonstrable impact
  • Analytical ability
  • A technical knowledge of research tools and software
  • Use of UX design software including Omnigraffle, Axure, Balsamiq (ideally to build prototypes)

A bit about your experience:

  • Expert in HTML5, CSS3, Sass, Video
  • Extensive experience with responsive web design, ability to advise on best practice
  • Experience in working with a JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as React, Redux, Backbone.js or Angular. Understanding of native JavaScript development.
  • Experience using node.js and frontend build tools such as Grunt, Gulp or Broccoli.
  • Strong knowledge of PHP
  • Understanding of OOP principles and techniques
  • Understanding of XSS attacks and how to safeguard against them
  • Experience working on a LAMP and node stack
  • Comfortable with the command line
  • Good working knowledge of modern VCS systems especially
  • Understanding of SEO, ability to advise on best practise and impact
  •  Strong customer-focus with knowledge of ecommerce, usability and experience design
  • Good understanding and ability to deliver well-scoped, designed, run, and communicated research projects with demonstrable impact
  • Analytical ability
  • A technical knowledge of research tools and software
  • Advanced skills using UX design software including Omnigraffle, Axure, Balsamiq (ideally to build prototypes)
