We are seeking an exceptional Editor with proven experience in the industry to join our team and help lead the growth of Harvey Nichols creative content through ownership of the tone of voice.
You will manage the day-to-day operations of the editorial copy team; overseeing high quality content from a team of writers and ensuring a consistent tone of voice is presented across all categories, commerce channels (website, social media, stores and hospitality) and multichannel media.
The ability to coherently map out storytelling across multiple channels while marrying up commercial requirements and marketing activity will be essential to this role. An understanding of the digital and physical retail environment will be useful.
What you will be doing
With a rolodex of PR contacts and a mind spinning with story leads, lead the copy team to initiate forward thinking content and produce credible editorial copy reflecting our values and tone of voice across multichannel communications.
Responsible for seasonal storytelling. Lead editorial projects from conception to execution positioning the Harvey Nichols brand identity across all written media for lifestyle, food and beverage, fashion, beauty and hospitality.
Drive the content calendar alongside the Fashion and Creative Content Editor; ensuring stories reflect both commercial and marketing priorities as well as seasonal trends and influence across all FOBs
Work alongside the wider Creative and Content team to deliver a multichannel content strategy; liaising closely with the CRM, SEO Content and Social Media teams using data to inform and shape a continually evolving approach
Provide creative leadership to the creative copy team; to deliver copy that embodies the Harvey Nichols tone of voice, covering editorial features for our Stories page, emails, homepage content, social media and group marketing and promotional materials whilst driving traffic, engagement and revenue.
Evolve, develop, update and maintain the Harvey Nichols tone of voice in line with the brand positioning
Facilitate structured content planning sessions between the Styling, Copy and Market teams; working to develop fresh and original editorial features and new initiatives which are on brand, commercially sound, promote sales, and will provide lifestyle and shopping direction to the multichannel customer
Working with the wider Creative Content team to prioritise the Stories hub, collate a weekly brief to deadline.
Ensure creative copy is commercially sounds across all content channels including Stories features, emails, homepage, social media, promotions and all marketing communication, inspiring existing and future customers to shop.
Work closely with the content creation and wider marketing teams to ensure that the correct tone of voice is used at all times.
Approve and sign off the weekly BAU and non BAU copy content
Lead the copy team in researching and writing editorial copy for all features including trend reports, news stories and brand profiles as well as marketing copy such as subject lines, sells and CTAs.
Produce editorial features throughout the season that support commercial objectives, are imaginative and inspired, and reflect current events, cultural shifts and emerging trends in lifestyle
Generate stories and liaise with collaborators to secure exclusive quotes and contributions that give Harvey Nichols content credibility and editorial edge among competitors.
Monitor the editorial copy and tone of voice across multichannel content to ensure accuracy and consistency is maintained.
Create dynamic and enticing headlines, homepage copy, and subject lines for email marketing campaigns.
An understanding of the importance of SEO in journalism, and how to use it effectively in everything from body copy to headlines
Working with the support of the Sub-Editor, update the Harvey Nichols brand guidelines when necessary.
Oversee the Sub-Editor, who will work to ensure that all communications are correct in terms of grammar, fact and spelling.
Maintain and react to the performance of content, including emails, social, events, videos and podcasts to inform and refine copy and tone across these channels.
Proactively liaise between the Editorial, Brand Marketing, Ecommerce and Social Media teams to align with deliveries and launches, and ensure a joined-up approach to content that meets business needs.
Monitor content activity of competitors both in Ecommerce and Editorial.
Attend production and trade meetings and use findings from the meetings to ensure the messaging on all channels is commercially tailored.
Understanding and building commercial relationships in and outside of the business, working with the revenue teams on special projects whenever necessary
Keeping fully abreast of popular culture, trends and current affairs to ensure that our tone across print and digital is timely, informed, relevant and has a point of difference
Strong interpersonal communications skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across myriad departments and differing levels of seniority
Influence the development of Harvey Nichols Wordpress CMS functionality, ensuring copy produced is best practice and keeping abreast of SEO changes.

The ability to create inspiring content with sharp copywriting and editing skills.
A comprehensive understanding and interest in the luxury industry, encompassing fashion, beauty, food and hospitality
Excellent English language and writing skills coupled with faultless grammatical accuracy
Meticulous attention to detail and well-honed editing skills
A balance of creative and commercial know-how
Confident trouble-shooter and intermediary
You will have proven ability to work according to deadlines and have a keen eye for detail
You must be detail orientated with strong organisation, multitasking and time management skills
Confident in managing up, down and across teams
A real ‘people person’ with experience in leading and managing other team members
Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Adobe Photoshop
