An experienced Assistant Grocery Buyer is required to develop and extend the range of Branded Grocery products.
You will resource, recommend and buy an appropriate merchandise range to meet agreed sales, stock, mark-down and profit targets in line with the overall Company buying strategy and to provide support to the Buying Manager and/or Buyer across all relevant functions, as appropriate.
What you'll be doing:
Research, prepare and provide data analysis relative to designated categories for review with the Buying Manager and/or Buyer as appropriate, taking into account sales history, trends, space allocation to products and product seasonality.
Assist the Buying Manager and/or Buyer with regular range reviews, product selections and buying decisions.
Support and gain a detailed understanding from the Buying Manager in all aspects of the Company’s own label food proposition as part of the overall strategy to re-establish HN own label food range as the dominant brand within HN foodmarkets and on-line.
Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the market through existing and potential brands and build successful relationships with suppliers through regular and effective communication.
Action weekly sales information in order to highlight requirements for repeat orders, mark-downs and range changes and review this formally with the Buying Manager and/or Buyer, as appropriate
Recommend and place purchase orders for an agreed commercial range of products within designated categories in accordance with agreed buying objectives.
Regularly review each individual market keeping abreast of trends within product area.
Closely monitor and record competitor’s activity through comparative shopping exercises
Establish and negotiate the best possible terms (where appropriate) to provide planned gross margins and stock turn.
Effectively communicate with the management of the DC to ensure the timely receipt of goods into the stores, phasing planned intake in order to meet sales, stock, mark-down and profit targets.
Initiate and recommend ways of improving sales performance, with the emphasis on visual merchandising, promotional activity, staff training and negotiated supplier support, as appropriate
Prepare and present regular financial reports to support category sales, margin and product range reviews to the Buying Manager and/or Buyer, as appropriate
Together with the Buying Manager and/or Buyer, regularly review planned margin, terminal stock and mark-down of designated categories.
Maintain accurate record keeping – product spec, prices etc
Act as a point of contact for store personnel relative to buying related queries, product availability and pricing
