About the role… 

Support the buyers to source and buy an appropriate merchandise on an agreed range of products to meet agreed customer and range profile as well as sales, stock and profit targets in line with the overall Company buying strategy. Provide support to the Wine and Spirits buyers across all relevant functions, to ensure that the category runs efficiently.

  • Assist the Buying Manager and/or Buyer with regular range reviews, product selections and buying decisions.
  • Support the Buyers in their work with the Merchandising Team to provide data analysis on category reviews, considering sales history, trends, space allocation to products and product seasonality.
  • Support and gain a detailed understanding from the Buying Manager/Buyer in all aspects of the Company’s own label beverage proposition as part of the overall strategy.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the market through existing and potential brands and build successful relationships with suppliers through regular and effective communication.
  • Work with the Merchandising Team to review weekly sales information which identifies requirements for repeat orders, mark-downs and range changes and review with the Buying Manager and/or Buyer, as appropriate. Action agreed changes.
  • Regularly review each individual market keeping abreast of trends within product area.
  • Closely monitor and record competitor activity through comparative shopping exercises.
  • Establish and negotiate the best possible terms (where appropriate) to provide planned gross margins and stock turn.
  • Initiate and recommend ways of improving sales performance, with the emphasis on visual merchandising, promotional activity, staff training and negotiated supplier support, as appropriate.
  • Maintain system data integrity and accurate record keeping – range plan, trade plan, product specs, prices etc at all times.
  • Act as a point of contact for store personnel relative to buying related queries, product availability and pricing.
  • Build relationships with all sales channels (stores, Online, Corporate sales, PS) to stimulate trade growth and productive working relationships.
