Display Assistant - Jes Walsh

Why Harvey Nichols?

Coming from a window dressing background in Ireland I always thought Harvey Nichols was the place to be for Display in London, the schemes are always so inspiring and unique.

Describe your current role and who you work with

My role is quite varied. As a team we cover everything from styling mannequins to changing light bulbs! As a luxury store great visual standards is a must so we are always kept busy. I work in a team of 15 which includes managers, visual merchandisers, signage assistants and display assistants.

What’s the best thing about working at Harvey Nichols?

Definitely the people. Throughout the store you meet so many enthusiastic and inspiring people, it really feels like one big family!

What’s your favourite part of your role?

It would have to be window installs. Window installs are our busiest times and definitely the most fun. A lot of hard work and attention to detail goes into this and to see the schemes that we have created admired by the world is very rewarding.

What gets you up in the mornings?

A strong cup of coffee to get me through my morning store checks!

What’s the most exciting thing you’ve ever done in your role?

Getting to go on a field trip to help set up for the Duke of Edinburgh awards at Stoke park. I spent the day styling a collection of dresses worn by the ‘Bond girls’ in the James Bond films. It was such a great experience.

Describe a typical day in your role

It’s safe to say there is no typical day in display! Besides the mornings which always consist of floor and window walks to check that everything is up to standard, the rest of the day I could be redressing floors, bubble wrapping mannequins to send to another store or filling out paper work to follow up a new scheme.
