Here at Harvey Nichols we take the training and development of our staff very seriously. You need to take responsibility for driving your progression, but we provide you with the structure and tools to help you. Here's an overview of some of our key programmes. There may be some content variation between stores but everything's delivered to the same high quality.

Steps to Success

Steps to Success is the programme you will follow when you join the company. With the support of a buddy you'll complete a series of tasks and checklists that will equip you with all the basic skills and knowledge you need to effectively do your job. You'll have regular meetings with your manager to make sure everything's going well, and once you've reached the required standards, as defined by our competencies, you'll receive a pay rise to recognise your contributions.

We also have salary linked competencies in place in other areas of the business such as Buying, Merchandising and some of our Support areas which support you in developing your skills and knowledge.

Performance Reviews

As part of our commitment to continual development, every year you'll have an appraisal meeting with your manager. One of the results of this is a personal development plan listing what you need to focus on to perform even better in your role and prepare for any next steps you'd like to take.

Career Progression

These programmes equip you with the skills you'll need to become an effective manager and leader in the business.

For our star performers, each year we offer places on the prestigious Oxford Summer School. If you have aspirations to work as a top chef in one of the country's top restaurants, this flagship programme is for you. Every year a number of our sites take on specially selected budding chefs and put them through a rigorous programme leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
